Diamond Resorts, one of my new favorite vacation package companies, just announced some good news for their investors and their members – they’ve filed for IPO and will go public.
Today, Diamond has nearly 500,000 families who participate in their program and they have almost 300 vacation destination options, making it hard pressed to dream up a location where you “can’t” go with Diamond. Leonardo DiCaprio’s summer home in Italy. Yup, they got that. (J/K)
Diamond’s founder, Stephen Cloobeck, who started the company back in 2007 has spent decades in the vacation and time share industry and his expertise and management has shown to be a winning combination for DRI. So, what’s the twist with Diamond? Why are they so successful? Typical time-share operations don’t allow for short visits and need you to commit to weeks at a time. Not so with Diamond Resorts, they offer flexibility where other companies offer “no’s”. Their point system is quite simple and allows their members to use their allotted time in smaller increments even for short weekend getaways.
As I said before, this additional money will help Diamond pursue their expansion plan by allowing the acquisition of many new properties in additional markets – starting in Asia. The one example talked about is a deal with Dorsett Hospitality International, which is a huge hotel owner in Japan, China, Singapore and Malaysia. With this deal in place, Diamond will be able to expand their footprint into additional exotic areas of the world further increasing market share.
